Whew! Today was a hike! We started out at 66’ elevation, hiked up over a mountain at 940’ and then came back down to 23’. The change in scenery was as drastic as the elevation.
We cannot say enough good things about the Seal Cove Inn at Moss Beach. They went out of their way to see to our every need. Fresh baked cookies and cold drinks on arrival, complimentary wine service from 3-6, breakfast brought to your room at the appointed time and as much bottled water (cold or room temp) as we wanted even offering us each a bottle as we left this morning.
Morning tea. I was serenity and Jo Anne was ponder. Hmmmm.
My breakfast of gluten free granola, fruit plate, boiled egg and ham.
Jo Anne had yogurt parfait with granola and raspberry compote, fresh fruit and a pastry basket. We could get used to this kind of service 😁.
The beginning of our walk from Moss Beach to Rockaway Beach.
The next photos are all from the bluff path. I have no words to describe them.
The wind is blowing 21 mph as we begin and the temp is in the upper 40s. It is cold but the views are so amazing it doesn’t even matter.
I think this one is my favorite.
At times the little trail was right on the edge of the bluff.
Jo Anne made the comment that it’s like the sea is angry but it brings such peace. We decided the peace comes from knowing the God who created and controls that powerful sea.
Kevin asked what the trails are like so I’ve taken some photos of our trails today.
We looked at the trail going over the mountain and laughed saying we sure were glad we weren’t following that trail. The laugh was on us because that’s exactly what we did. We took the Old San Pedro Mountain trail over the mountain.
We went through a working horse ranch
Over a bridge
A sign telling us to watch our speed 🤣
Looking way way back at how far we’ve walked.
The scenery is so different going up the mountain and through the trees. Unfortunately I am allergic to eucalyptus and we went through groves of them that were planted in the 1870s for shipbuilding, timber and medicine. I pretty much had tissues stuck up my nostrils all day (sorry for being so descriptive).
Yep. We walked up that trail.
And that one
Almost to the top
Steampunk sign post 🤣
We came over the top of the mountain and could actually see San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. I wish the picture was clearer so you could see it too. It was a bit overwhelming to see how far the next two days will take us since we end our walk by crossing the bridge.
Our lunch stop today isn’t too scenic but we found a rock and the wind was blocked so we took it.
The end of the mountain trail.
This Taco Bell was originally built as an A&W in the 1970s right on the beach at Rockaway. It must be one of the most magnificent locations for a fast food restaurant anywhere.
The trail to our lodging is more like a sidewalk than a trail.
Out hotel is down on the right with a lighthouse looking appendage sticking up 🥴.
Switchbacks to the hotel.
We’re a little disappointed in our coastal view balcony. Wasn’t expecting the roof of a restaurant obstructing the view. Not even going to take a pic of the room here. We’ve gone from 15 stars ⭐️ out of five to 0. No amenities and the restaurant here is closed on Mondays. Not sure where we’ll get dinner or breakfast in the morning.
We found a restaurant close to the hotel. Dinner was clam chowder and crab cakes for Jo Anne.
I had another crab Louie salad. I don’t think I could ever get tired of eating fresh crab.
Sun reflecting off the rocks just before it sets.
The waves are still very strong. Another day is gone.
Going over that mountain sure felt like more than 34 floors. Hopefully we can get out of bed in the morning.

You are sure covering the territory. I love seeing the pictures on your journey. Praying for safety and good weather. I have so many questions for you when you get home.
ReplyDeleteLoving the pictures and commentary on your adventures! Hope it’s a little warmer and less windy for the remainder of your treks. ❤️
